Librarian's Day Celebrations at AC Joshi Library, Panjab University













AC Joshi Library celebrated Librarians’ Day on 12.8.2013 inaugurated by Prof. Lalit Kumar Bansal, Dean Research and Chairperson, USOL, Panjab University. This day is celebrated at the national level in India, in remembrance of National Professor of Library Science, Padmashree Dr. S R Ranganathan, who spearheaded library development in India. Dr. Raj Kumar, University Librarian, welcomed the participants coming from Chandigarh and surrounding region. Prof. Lalit Bansal, in his inaugural address emphasized on the importance of service aspect to users who visit the Library. Prof. Jagtar Singh from Deptt. Of Library & Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala had very enlgihtening talk on the relevance of Dr. Ranganathan in today’s scenario. Taking cognizance of his contribution, he recalled the legacy of Dr. Ranganathan. Mr. Sanjay Grover from Informatics India Ltd in his lecture on “From Discovery to Delivering – the true Digital Library” elaborated in detail the concept of Digital Library Services and the latest developments taking place in the field. Coinciding with the birthday celebrations of Dr. S R Ranganathan. A Panel Discussion held on ‘Users Expectations and Satisfaction’, in which Librarians as well as users shared the common platform to exchange their views. Presentations by various librarians about their libraries were also held on this occasion.  A Library Quiz was organised in collaboration with INFORMATICS India Ltd. a company delivering scholarly contents and Information products. Mr. Anil Kumar from Department of Laws won the quiz contest.
